Veterinary Technology

Veterinary Technology

Students develop experience working with a variety of livestock and companion animals, while learning how to improve animal breeding, growth, nutrition, and more.

Northeast has one of only two associate degree veterinary technology programs in Nebraska. Addressing these facility needs is critical to maintaining and growing the number of veterinary technicians in the workforce.

The Need

Inadequate Facilities
The veterinary technology clinic is currently located in the 100-year-old Norfolk Regional Center dairy barn. Some of the limitations include:

  • Small space with inadequate lighting and low ceilings
  • Limited reception space
  • Inconvenient, spaced out classrooms
  • Lack of lab on site, so samples are sent to the main campus for testing
  • Inefficient use of time for faculty and students because classrooms, offices, and laboratories are on the main campus while surgeries and procedures are performed on the farm site

My Nexus Story

“To meet the workforce need within the state, we are going to have to grow our enrollments. The equipment in the Northeast Veterinary Technology program is state of the art, but our building is outdated, undersized and inefficient. The laboratory and treatment areas, radiology and surgery, need to be larger to accommodate learning and be closer together to better mimic a typical working clinic and create efficiencies.”

The Plan

Implement Modern Technology & Best Practices

The Agriculture & Water Center of Excellence will provide students with much needed facility space to work safely with animals. Students will receive more hands-on educational opportunities to build skills for working in the animal industry.

Vet Technology Nexus
